Career
After a successful career as a soccer player during her time she received four consecutive NCAA Division I Championship titles, at the University of North Carolina with Hamm and went on to become an integral part of the American national team. Apart from this she also led the team at three Olympic games from 1996 to 2004. In total, she scored seven goals in these international tournaments.
At that time on the national team, she scored 276 goals in all competitions throughout her career. This success made her the highest-scoring international footballer of all time (men included) till 2003, Hamm has also won many awards including three ESPY awards, Sportswoman of the Year, and US Soccer Female Athlete of the Year. She also became a co-owner of Los Angeles FC after her retirement.
Her playing career was noted by her involvement with the U.S. national team. After making her debut in 1987, she scored during her 17th game. After that, she scored against Sweden and Brazil and advanced her team to beat Norway in the final.
She found herself playing as goalkeeper after the starting goalie for the US was sent off. Her national team made it to the semi-finals, where they were defeated by Norway. Although Mia helped her team to secure third place after a win against China.

Hamm was born on March 17th March 972 in Selma, Alabama USA. Grown in the military brat with other five siblings, she was born with a club foot and travelled regularly with her family. In her childhood, she lived in a military base in Italy, where she first became familiar with soccer. At the age of only five years old, her family moved to Texas, and Hamm was playing on her first soccer team. She then became an outstanding player at the high school level.
She led the Tar Heels to four NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championships within five years. At that same time, she only lost a single game when Hamm was playing.
