Early Life

Jonathan was born in Anniston, Alabama and lived in different places in the U.S. before finally settling down in Ashburn, Virginia with his parents. His father is Richard Allen. There is no information regarding his mother but Jonathan’s parents separated when he was 3 years only and his mother got custody of him and his brother.

By the year 2004, Richard Allen won full custody of Jonathan and his brother. He went to Stone Bridge High School. In 2012 as a senior, he was the Virginia Gatorade Football of the Year.
During his career, he recorded 308 tackles and 44 sacks. He was a five-star recruit and he was ranked amongst the top of his class.

Personal Life: Jonathan married Hannah in July 2018, after exchanging vows at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Because of his own experience with the foster care system, Jonathan chose to work with Sasha Bruce Youthwork, a homeless shelter that focuses on helping young people in Washington, D.C., find a safe home.

College Career

As a real freshman Jonathan played in 13 games at Alabama in 2013 and made 16 tackles. In 2014 as a Sophomore he made 12 starts by playing in all 14 games. After recording 33 tackles and 5.5 sacks he was named first-team All-SEC.

In 2015 as a junior, Jonathan started all 14 games for Crimson Tide, who won the 2016s College Football Playoff National Championship by a score of 45-40 against Clemson Tigers. For his performance in the 2016 season, Jonathan went on to win the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Chuck Bednarik Award and Lombardi Award.

Professional Career

His stock started to decline after teams became concerned when he was diagnosed with arthritis in one of his shoulders and had surgery on both 2 weeks before the combine.

In the first round, Jonathan was selected by the Washington Redskins, 17th overall in the NFL Draft 2017. On 11th May 2017, Jonathan signed his four-year rookie contract worth 11.59 million dollars. In a week 3 game against the Oakland Raiders, Jonathan recorded his career’s first sack. He suffered a Lis franc injury against the San Francisco 49ers in week 6. On October 19th 2017 he was placed on injured reserve.

On 27th April 2020, the team exercised the fifth-year option on his contract. After playing the defensive end position for the first three seasons of his career Jonathan switched to defensive tackle after the team’s new defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio implemented a 4-3 defensive scheme.
Jonathan signed a four-year contract extension worth 72 million dollars on 27th July 2021.

He was placed on the COVID-19 reserve list on 13th December 2021 but later was placed back on the active roster 5 days later. In the week 15 game against the Philadelphia Eagles recording a sack, he set a new career high of 8.5 sacks in a single season. During a blowout Monday Night Football loss to the Cowboys in week 16, Jonathan punched a teammate Daron Payne on the sideline. He was voted to the 2022 Pro Bowl, his first following the season.

Jonathan recorded 3 tackles and a sack in week 1 of the 20222 season. Justin Fields recorded his first career interception and first forced fumble in the week 6 win against the Chicago Bears. Jonathan was voted into his second consecutive Pro Bowl in December 2022.
