He was born in Reno, Nevada, and grew up first in Davenport, Iowa, and then in the St. Louis area of Missouri. He started playing golf at a young age and studied at Mississippi State University and the University of Missouri.

Michael started his professional career in golf in his childhood and gained wide recognition after cutting the 2023 PGA Championship when he was forty-six years old.
