Cody Rhodes Early Life
He is of Cuban descent from his maternal grandfather’s side. He has a sister named Teil & his paternal half-brother and professional wrestler Dustin and a paternal half-sister named Kristin, who is also a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. He is the nephew of professional wrestlers Jerry Sags and Fred Ottman, and the godson of professional wrestler Magnum T. A who was also present at both Rhodes’ birth and baptism. He studied at the Lassiter High School and had a successful high school wrestling career.
As a junior, he won the Georgia state tournament in 2003 and repeated as champion his senior year. He also had planned to wrestle collegiately at Penn State University but decided to become a professional wrestler. After graduating high school, he studied at the Howard Fine Acting School in Los Angeles for a year.
Professional Career
Ohio Valley Wrestling (2006–2007)
Cody credits his father for starting to train him as a wrestler at twelve years old, which was limited mainly to simple fundamentals. He then started wrestling in Ohio Valley Wrestling on 13th May 2006. He formed a tag team with Shawn Spears in August 2006 and won the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship twice. He also won the OVW Heavyweight Championship and the OVW Television Championship.
The Legacy (2008–2010)
After the championship, they dropped it to John Cena and Batista on the 4th of August, 2008, episode of Raw, but regained it the next week. On the 27th of October Raw, they lost the World Tag Team Championship to Kofi Kingston and CM Punk. Tension within The Legacy became clear at the 2010 Royal Rumble, where he attempted to interfere in Orton’s match for the WWE Championship. Cody was caught by the referee, resulting in a disqualification for Orton, who attacked them,& also had tried to help Rhodes, after the match. On the 15th February Raw, Orton took on Sheamus in a non-title rematch but was again disqualified after they both interfered.
During the WWE Championship Elimination Chamber match pay-per-view, Cody interfered, passing a lead pipe through the cage to DiBiase. The next night on Raw, Orton attacked them during a six-man tag team match, and they attacked Orton the following week in retaliation. Team Rhodes Scholars (2012–2013)
Cody then aligned himself with Damien Sandow, attacking Tag Team Champions Team Hell No on September 24th. The team, now known as ” Rhodes” suffered a concussion and a strained shoulder, resulting in him being removed from his traditional five-on-five tag team match at Survivor Series.On 14th July at Money in the Bank pay-per-view, he competed in the World Heavyweight Championship Money in the Bank ladder match, & won against Damien Sandow after Sandow turned on Rhodes and threw him off of the ladder just as Cody was about to win the match.
The next day he attacked Sandow and dissolved Team Rhodes Scholars, turning face for the first time since 2008 & they feuded over the briefcase. Independent Circuit (2016–2018)
After he left WWE, he continued working under his real name on the independent circuit but dropped his last name in order to avoid conflict with WWE. His first post-WWE match was for Evolve in Joppa, Maryland, on 19th August at Evolve 66, defeating Zack Sabre Jr. by submission. After the match, he called out Drew Galloway.
In May 2017, he suggested that an independent wrestling show would sell out a ten thousand-seat arena in the United States. He, along with The Young Bucks, challenged the idea by planning a show specifically for the purpose of drawing ten thousand fans. In May 2018, it was announced that the show would be named All In. Ring of Honor (2016–2018)
On 23rd September, it was confirmed that he had signed an exclusive contract with ROH. On 21st July 2018, Cody and The Bucks lost the titles at Survival of the Fittest to The Kingdom on November 4 after a 106-day reign and two successful title defences. He then faced Jay Lethal for the ROH World Championship at Final Battle, but he lost the match. The next day, Cody left ROH.
Return to WWE (2022–present)
Finish The Story (2022–2024)
On 18th March 2022, it was reported by multiple sources that he had re-signed with WWE. On the first night of WrestleMania 38 on 2nd April, he was revealed as Seth “Freakin” Rollins’ surprise opponent, making his return to WWE after six years and defeating Rollins.On the next episode of Raw, he explained that he returned to WWE to win the championship that his father, Dusty Rhodes, never got to hold, the WWE Championship. He then defeated Rollins once more in a rematch at WrestleMania Backlash.
Ahead of their Hell in a Cell match at the eponymous event, he suffered a legitimate pectoral muscle tear, which had resulted halfway through a brawl on the prior episode of Raw. The injury became more complicated when the muscle tore entirely off the bone while he was weight training in the days preceding the event. He then entered Hell in a Cell with a massive spot of discoloured skin, but after so many injuries, he managed to defeat Rollins for the third time in a critically acclaimed match.

At Money in the Bank, The Bloodline defeated him, Orton and Owens in a six-man tag team match with Cody being pinned by Sikoa. He then defended the title against Owens at Bash in Berlin. He defended the title against Sikoa again during the 13th September episode of SmackDown in a steel cage match. Next in the cage match, with Reigns coming to his defence from the Bloodline, Cody and Reigns agreed to team up against Sikoa and Jacob Fatu at Bad Blood on 5th October.
