Early Life
Christen was born in Los Angeles and grew up in the suburb of Palos Verdes Estates with her parents. Both of her parents played different sports. Her mother Stacy Press was a tennis player and her father Cody Press was an American football player at Dartmouth. She has two sisters named Channing and Tyler. By the age of 5, she started playing football. She went to Chadwick School for a high school education.

Club Career
Magic Jack (2011)
As the fourth overall pick in the 2011 PWS Draft, Christen was drafted to the Washington Freedom. The team moved to Florida and was renamed Magic Jack under new ownership. In May she made her first goal in the 64th minute of Magic Jack’s 2-0 win against the Atlanta Beat. In July against the Boston Breakers, she made her first hat trick in a professional match with a 4-0 score.
Christen was awarded the U.S. Soccer Federation’s Rookie of the Year award in part for being the first-ever rookie to have a hat trick. Christen finished the season having started in 16 of the 19 games in which she appeared for Magic Jack.
Kopparbergs FC (2012)
Christen signed a new professional contract with Kopparbergs FC in the Damallsvenskan, the top division league in Sweden after Women’s Professional Soccer folded in early 2012. A quarterfinal match against Arsenal that ended in a 3-0 loss was her first match with Kopparbergs in the 2012-13 UEFA Women’s Champions League. On 10th April against Djurgaden during her regular debut season with Kopparbergs, she made two goals (a brace). In the same month later she scored another brace, winning against KIF Orebro with a score of 6-0. In August,
Christen recorded her third brace in a win against Umea with a score of 5-0. She ended the year as the second-highest scorer in the Damallsvenskan with 17 league goals. Christen scored 2 goals in a score of 3-0 in a win against Kristianstad during the quarterfinals of the Swedish Cup. Christen’s 13th-minute goal helped Kopparbergs win against LdB Malmo with a score of 2-1 in the semifinals and progressed to the championship final. With Christen being part of both goals Kopparbergs won the championship against Tyreso FF with a score of 2-1 after extra time.
Tyreso FF (2013-2014)
Christen signed with Damallsvenskan champions, Tyreso FF in Stockholm in early 2013. She made a goal in her regular season debut for the second consecutive season. In a win against Sunnana SK with a score of 10-2, Christen made four goals. During the next match of the team, Christen made 2 goals and helped the team to win against Jitex BK with a score of 7-0. She made a hat trick during the squad’s 5-1 win against Kristianstads DFF on 9th June 2013. Christen scored twice against her former team, Kopparbergs FC, helping Tyreso win with a score of 4-1, during the last match of the team’s regular season.
With 23 goals in the league, Christen finished the season as the top scorer, becoming the first American to do in the history of Damallsvenskan. During the regular season with a 14-6-2 record Tyreso finished second and qualified for the 2014-15 UEFA Women’s Champions League. During the 2013-14 UEFA Women’s Champions League’s round of 32 matches, Christen scored Tyrese’s only 2 goals, securing a 2-1 win against French side Paris Saint-Germain Feminines and helping her team progress into the round of 16. She scored 3 times in the Svenska Cupen and 9 times in the 2013-14 UEFA Women’s Champions League competitions for a total goal of 37 in October 2013. Christen’s 9 goals helped the team to reach the 2014 UEFA Women’s Champions League Final where they lost against VfL Wolfsburg with a score of 4-3.
Chicago Red Stars (2014-1017)
The Chicago Red Stars announced in January 2014 that Christen would be joining their roster for the 2014 season following the result of her time with Tyreso in the 2013-14 Champions League. Christen joined the team in late May, she was awarded the team’s Golden Boot as she scored a team-high of 6 goals by playing in just 12 marches only. On 3rd July reigning champions Portland Thorns FC at Providence Park, she made 2 goals in the last 15 minutes to equalize the score, after being down at halftime by 2-0. In a draw against Western New York Flash on 16th August. Christen was named to the league’s second XI team by coaches, players and media.
For the 2015 season, Christen returned to the Chicago Red Stars. She scored a brace and assisted a goal scored by Jem Hoy, during the team’s first home match against Seattle Reign FC resulting in a 3-2 win. For week 2 of the season, she was subsequently named the league’s NWSL Player of the Week. Christen made 2 early goals in a tied match against Portland on 25th April. Christen was the league’s goal leader and she was named NWSL Player of the Month for she made 4 goals and 1 assist at the end of April. On 1st August in a draw match against FC Kansas City, she made 4 goals in a 3-game span with a brace.
In 14 games she was named captain and tallied 8 goals in the 2016 season. In the NWSL Playoffs, she scored a goal still they were eliminated by Washington Spirit with a score of 2-1 in extra time. For the second season in 2017, she was captain of the team. With 11 goals she was the top scorer of the team and the 4th highest scorer in the league. Securing a place in the playoffs Chicago finished in 4th place during the regular season with an 11-7-6 record. During the semi-finals against North Carolina Courage the team lose with a score of 1-0. At the end of the season, Christen was named to the NWSL Best XI.
Christen was traded to Houston Dash on 18th January 2018 as part of a three-team trade which included Samantha Kerr and Carli Lloyd.
Kopparbergs FC (2018)
With her former club, she signed a 3 months contract in March 2018. She was named Damallsvenskan Player of the Month for April as she scored 4 goals in 3 matches. The team announced an agreement with the NWSL expansion club, Utah Royals FC, to end the contract early so that she can join the Utah Royals FC for the remaining season of 2018.
Utah Royal FC (2018-2020)
Christen joined Utah Royals FC on 18th June. In a draw match against Seattle Reign, on 27th June she played her debut match for Utah Royals FC. During the 2018 season, Christen made 2 goals and appeared in a total of 11 games for Utah Royals FC. As they finished in 5th place during their inaugural season and could not reserve a place in the NWSL Playoffs. Christen started the 2019 NWSL season by assisting Lo’eau LaBonta.

As the 2020 season was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Christen was selected not to take part in the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup.
Manchester United (2020-2021)
With 1-year contract Christen and her national team’s teammate Tobin Heath joined Manchester United on 9th September 2020. Playing a total of 17 games she scored 4 goals for Manchester while Tobin scored 4 goals in a total of 11 games. The club announced on 24th June that Christen will leave after her contract expired that month.
Angel City FC (2021-Present)
Racing Louisville traded Christen playing rights to Angel City FC on 22nd August 2021. She signed a 2-year contract with an optional 3rd year which was approximately worth 700000$ which made her the highest-paid player in NWSL history. Christen scored her first goal for Angel City against San Diego. Her best game with Angel City was unfortunately her last of 2022.
International Career
2012
For the 2012 summer Olympics in London, Christen was part of the United States women’s national soccer team, she attended as an alternate and couldn’t make it to the final roster.
2013
In a friendly game against Scotland on 9th February she earned her first cap for the national team. As a right midfielder, she scored the first 2 goals of the match and assisted for the 3rd goal of the United States. For the United States national team, she became the 3rd woman to score 2 goals in her first game after Cindy Parlow Cone and Sherrill Kester in 1996 and 2000 respectively. Won again Scotland with a 4-1 score.
During the team’s first group stage match against Iceland, Christen earned her 3rd cap on 6th March 2013. On 8th March 2013 with a 5-0 score against China, Christen scored their 4th goal and became the 5th Women’s National Team player to score 4 goals in her first 4 matches. 2014
At the 2014 International Tournament of Brasilia, Christen scored 4 goals against Argentina, with a score of 7-0 the United States won the match. On 8th February 2014 against Russia in a friendly, she scored a goal and on 13th February she scored a goal. She was selected to the national team for the 2014 Algarve Cup, by the head coach Tom Sermanni. She was featured in the 2014 CONCACAF Women’s Champion, in October, where they won the tournament.
FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015
In Canada, for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Christen was selected for the national team squad. She scored her first World Cup goal on 8th June by starting her first tournament against Australia. Out of 7 she played 4 and started with 2. Winning against Japan with a 5-2 score, The United States won the tournament.
Summer Olympic 2016
At the 2016 Summer Olympics, she was part of 1 of the 18 members of the team. When the United States reached the knockout stages, against Sweden they lost in the quarter-finals. They lost in a 4-3 penalty shootout as Christen missed the decisive final kick she played all 4 matches of the team. In 2016s, she appeared in all 25 games and was 1 of 2 players from the United States. Christen scored only 1 goal in a 1-0 win against Norway in a friendly match in June 2017. She appeared in all the games of 2017. Christen scored a goal against Brazil. In the 80th minute, the team lifted the score 3-2 in the 2017 Tournament of Nations which was held in 2 different places in California and Washington. She finished 2017 with 3 goals and 3 assists.
2018
For the 2018 SheBelieves Cup in February, Christen was selected. For the 2nd time, the United States won the tournament. At the end of March after signing with Kopparbergs FC, she was invited to the next United States camp in June for a set of friendly matches against China. She became the 37th woman player for the United States Women’s National Team to play 100 games on 12th June.
During a friendly match against Chile, Christen led the team and was honoured with her 100th cap. She scored a goal and the United States won the game by 3-0. For the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s Championship, she was 1 of the 20th players on the squad in September. In a win of 5-0 against Panama, In the group stage match, she scored a goal and assisted 2. The United States won their 3rd consecutive CONCACAF Championship and earned a place in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019
Christen was selected to the final 23-player roster for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, on 2nd May 2019. She started and played against Chile for the full 90 minutes in the second group match. Against England in the semi-final match, Christen started and scored a goal in the 10th minute. With a score of 2-1 win the United States progressed to their 3rd World Cup final.
As a second-half substitute replacing Megan Rapinoe in the world cup final. Won against the Netherlands in the final 2-0 and won their 2nd consecutive World Cup. Which was also a second World Cup win for Christen. Christen became the 12th player in United States Women’s National Team history to score 50 international goals on 7th November. In n a friendly match against Sweden, she scored her 50th goal. She was also the only player of the U.S. Women’s National Team to play in all 24 games in 2019.
2020
For the 2020 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament, she was selected for the 20-player roster. She scored in all 3 group-stage games. Christen was awarded the Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player, as the United States won against Canada in the championship game. For the 2020 SheBelieves Cup, Christen was selected to the United States 23-player roster. Where she played in all 3 matches. The United States won the tournament by winning in all 3 matches.
2021
In February, for the 2021 SheBelieves Cup, Christen was called again to the U.S. Women’s National Team squad. She played in all e games and scored 2 times in wins against Brazil and Argentina and they retained the SheBelieves Cup. For the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she was selected for the 18-player roster of the United States Women’s Soccer Team. She played all 6 matches of the tournament for the U.S. On 5th August the team brought home the bronze medal by winning against Australia with a score of 4-3. On 30th July turned into a win, a penalty kick against the Netherlands in the quarterfinal shootout. For the U.S. in 2021, Christen scored 6 goals and assisted 5.
2021-Present
Via her social media on 9th September 2021 Christen announced that even if she was called up, she would not play in upcoming internationals. For the 2022 SheBelieves Cup in February, Christen was not selected as the head coach Vlatko Andonovski of the U.S. Women’s National Team decided to leave a core group of Veteran players off of his 22-player roster including Christen. Also for the 2022 CONCACAF Women’s Championship, on 13th June 2022, she was not part of the 23-player roster.
