Alajuelense
Bryan started his professional career by the age of 18 making his debut by playing for Liga Deportiva Alajuelense on November 30th 2003 against Municipal Pérez Zeledón in the top division of Costa Rica. With 2 strikers Rolando Fonseca and Froylan Ledezma, he formed a trio where he built a reputation as a goal scorer and playmaker. On December 23rd 2003 against Ramonense Bryan scored his first goal. He was given the nickname La Comadreja (The Weasle) for his facial profile in Alajuelense. The team won regional titles like the UNCAF Cup and the CONCACAF Champions Cup when he was part of the team.
Gent
Bryan was signed by Gent in a 4 years deal along with Randall Azofeifa from Deportivo Saprissa and Roy Myrie from Liga Deportiva Alajuelense. In a match against Lokeren on December 8th 2007 Bryan scored his first hat trick. In the same season in the Belgian League, he was the top scorer and captain of the team.
Twente
The Dutch FC Twente announced that they had signed Bryan for a fee of around 5 million €. He signed a four-year deal with the Eredivisie. On December 12th his goal against NAC Breda marked the 10th consecutive match in which he had scored. Fulham
On the last day of the Premier League summer transfer window on August 31st 2011, Fulham announced that they signed Bryan. On September 11th did his debut at home to Blackburn Rovers and scored his first goal for Fulham in a 3-1 defeat against Everton on October 23rd 2011.
In the Reebok Stadium in a fixture against Bolton on April 7th 2012 Bryan broke a foot bone and needing him an operation for which he was on 10 weeks off. PVS Eindhoven (Loan)
On January 15th 2014 Bryan joined Eredivisie club PVS Eindhoven on loan until the end of the season.
On January 19th 2014 in a 1-0 loss against Ajax, Bryan made his debut and scored his first goal for the club on February 14th with a 63rd-minute winner against Heracles Aledo.
Sporting CP
Bryan signed a 3 years contract with Sporting CP on July 7th 2015. In the 2015 Supertaca match against Lisbon rivals S.L. Benfica he made his debut which Sporting CP won 1-0. Bryan scored his first goal for Sporting CP against Besiktas in the group stage of the UEFA Europa League on October 1st 2015. On October 25th his first goal in the Primeira Liga came in a 3-0 Lisbon derby defeat of Benfica at the Estadio da Luz. In another derby on March 5th 2016, Bryan missed an open goal and Benfica won the match 1-0 at Estadio Jose Alvalade came in first place by knocking out Sporting CP in Second place in the league.
Santos
As a free agent, Bryan signed a two and half years contract with FC Santos on July 11th 2018. On August 8th he made his debut for the club replacing Diego Pituca at halftime in a score of 1-1 draw against Ceara. In his first season just after 12 league matches, Bryan failed to appear a single minute during his second, under Jorge Sampaoli. After again failing to play under Jesualdo Ferreira he terminated the contract with the club. Bryan announced his return to Alajuelense on July 23rd 2020.
International Career
Bryan, on June 19th 2005 made his international debut for Costa Rica against China. Bryan has represented the Ticos at 2005, 2011 and 2015 CONCACAF Gold cups leading the team at the latter tournament. Against Honduras, in the 2005 tournament, Bryan scored his first international goal.
During the 2010 FIFA world cup qualification campaign Bryan scored 6 times as Costa Rica was knocked out by Uruguay in the intercontinental playoff. Bryan scored 3 goals to lead the team to the tournament finals in Brazil in the 2014 qualifiers.
Bryan was named in Costa Rica’s squad for the 2014 FIFA world cup in June 2014. In the opening match of the team, he captained Los Ticos to a 3-1 loss to Uruguay in Fortaleza. On June 20th, Bryan scored the only goal as Costa Rica to upset four-time champion Italy 1-0 to qualify for the round of 16, where he scored again and drew 1-1 against Greece.
Later Bryan successfully converted his kick as Costa Rica prevailed 5-3 in the penalty shootout. At the quarter-final stage, Bryan was one of the two Costa Rican to have their kicks saved by Tim Krul in a 4-3 penalty shoot loss to the Netherlands. Bryan was named in Costa Rica’s 23-man squad for the 2018 FIFA world cup in Russia in May 2018. In the last match of the group stage against Switzerland Bryan scored a last-minute equalizing goal from a penalty spot which led the scorecard to a 2-2 draw but the goal was credited as an own goal by Switzerland‘s goalkeeper Yann Sommers.
