Ben is the son of former professional tennis player Bryan Shelton. His sister, Emma, played college tennis in Florida. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, as his father was the then-coach of Georgia Tech’s women’s tennis team. At the age of only twelve years old, he started playing tennis regularly and was coached by his father, who at the time was a college tennis coach.
