The sprinter started playing basketball in high school, and at one point faced NBA player Andrew Wiggins of Vaughan Secondary School. By performing in the York Region Championship he ran his first high school track race in basketball shorts and borrowed spikes. Being his lack of experience, he came in second in the 100m. Tony Sharpe, his future coach, goes through his excellent achievements. Grasse was then gradually invited to join Pickering’s Speed Academy.
