Early Life
She was born on 2nd July 1989, in San Dimas, California. She was grown up with two older sisters, Jeni and Jeri. Alex was a multi-sport athlete at a young age and started playing soccer with AYSO. At fourteen years old, she joined Cypress Elite won the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship and achieved third place at the under-19 level. She studied at the Diamond Bar High School where she was a three-time all-league pick and named an All-American by the NSCAA. Three years later she was called up to the United States under-20 women’s national soccer team.
The striker played for the California Golden Bears consecutively for three years from 2007 to 2010. She was named a candidate for the Hermann Trophy in her junior year and also became the first Golden Bear to be one of the top three finalists for the award. She graduated from Berkeley one semester early with a degree in Political Economy.
Soccer Career
In January 2011, she was the first overall pick in the WPS Draft by the Western New York Flash & also made her professional debut and helped the team win the league championship. In 2013 she joined the Portland Thorns in the inaugural season of the National Women’s Soccer League and helped the club win the league title that same year. She then performed for the United States to win titles at the 2015 and 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cups & there she was named to the Dream Team for both tournaments by winning the Silver Boot in 2019.
